Mantapoint Dive Log

In our dive log we will write about extraordinary trips or occurrences during our scuba diving trips to the dive sites of the Andaman Sea. Please check in often since we update our dive log on a regular basis.

27.01.2007 Our maiden voyage with our completely revamped daytrip boat Voyager II. We dive at Koh Bon and encounter a manta ray after only five minutes in the water. He keeps coming back and gives us plenty of opportunitys for some great still and video shots. During our lunch break the manta circles around our Voyager II in the shallow water of Koh Bon's lagoon just like he wants to welcome us and our new boat back to Koh Bon. We take this as a good sign since circle and manta are what our logo is made of.

During the second dive the manta ray keeps coming back to us, even as we descend deeper along the Koh Bon ridge. We see a leopard shark in the distance, but he is too deep to get any good shots. During our safety stop the manta circles around us for a last time before he disappears in the deep blue. Voyager II is on her way home to Khao Lak, the engine purring like a pussycat, and we enjoy an ice cold Heineken while the sun sets in a beautiful firework of red, blue and yellow... Can life get any better?

15.04.-16.04.2007 Overnight cruise to Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Surin Islands - Yeah, manta ray right on the spot at Koh Bon, then a turtle and a huge eagle ray at Surin Islands during an exploration dives we did at a new dive site. The early morning dive at Richelieu Rock and the following dive finally took us to scuba heaven with a beautiful 4m whale shark!

She was a female surrounded by a big flock of trevallies and remora. She was an absolutely beautiful creature, had a smooth pattern and had no marks or scratches on her skin at all. For about three hours she just circled around Richelieu Rock before disappearing in the blue. Even our only snorkeller on board, Petra saw her from the surface. This was definitely one of our best Mantapoint overnight trips ever!
